3 1/2 Years of Lukas

Today marks 3 1/2 years since Lukas was born.  He is such an energetic little boy I thought I better get some things written down so I won't forget.  (Sorry for some repeated pictures)

  • His hair seems to have turned a little more dirty blonde, unless that is just because it is longer than the usually buzzed summer look.
  • Does great with potty training except we do wear a pull up at night.
  • He does a good job of eating.  His favorites are probably pizza, corn dogs, and ice cream
  • Trains, Ninja Turtles, and cars are his toys of choice
  • He loves to read books, do puzzles, and getting a little more interested in craft activities
  • Still loves bath time and splashing all over with Lawson
  • He is very good at talking and having conversations.  My favorites are when he asks how my day was or when he says "Good Morning Mom".
  • Just listening to him talk is entertaining to those around him.

Lukas has become Mr. Independent
  • He likes to try everything on his own in the mornings, he will get up, get his own cup out of cabinet, and poor his juice or milk.  One day in an attempt to make chocolate milk he had a cup with just the chocolate syrup.  Luckily he didn't care much for it and has not attempted that again.
  • He will tell you what he wants and if you are doing it wrong.
  • He doesn't want any help in brushing his teeth.  We do at least make sure we put the toothpaste on the brush.  I think the electric toothbrush helps a little to get them cleaner, I tell myself that anyway.
  • He helps set the table for dinner time.
  • We are still working on the dressing himself.  He has the pants figured out, but doesn't like doing the shirt.
  • He likes routine and knowing what the plan is.  We talk a lot about everything on our list for the day.  He really likes talking about options and picking what we do.

Lukas is a busy little boy, always on the go.
  • He loves to run and talk about how fast he is, especially in his fast shoes.
  • We race to get places all the time.
  • We do have a habit of getting all of our toys out just to make a mess.  He thinks it is funny, but then apologizes because he knows he isn't supposed to get them all out.  Its a work in progress.
  • He loves discovering things outside so the cold weather has been rough on him, unless there is snow he wants to be out in it no matter the temperature.
  • He has made so many little friends in just 3 years and is always asking to go play at their house to play.

Lukas is my sensitive boy.  He is very caring and concerned for others.  He tends to be a little dramatic about his own injuries at times.  He doesn't like people to be upset and will console others when they are.  The toughest one for me is on our way to daycare in the mornings he will tell me how much he is going to miss me.  He is just such a sweety.  Lukas needs his "chill" time when he gets overwhelmed.  He goes and lays in his bed for a little while just to regroup.  This is something he does on his own.  Not sure where it came from, but it seems to really help him.  When he regroups he just comes back out to play.

He is a wonderful big brother!  He loves playing with his brother and has already mastered tricking him into doing what he wants.  It's always so convenient that Lawson wants to give Lukas the toy he wants in exchange for something different :)  We are continuing to work on our sharing and taking turns.  He knows the words, but usually just wants it to work in his favor.  He wants a new bed where one is high and one is low (bunk beds).  He says that way Lawson and him can share.

Lukas makes us laugh and smile everyday!  The things he says and does just surprise us and the things he picks up on.  He makes it pretty difficult to trick him anymore.  He just knows so much.  Seeing the smile on his face can just make me forget about any troubles and just want to curl up with him and cuddle.  Lukas is a wonderful little boy that has taught us so much about life.  We are so thankful God has blessed us with him.
