Cars Party!

Since Lukas is all about Cars right now, I thought I would go with it for his 3rd birthday party.  It turned out great and he was as excited as ever when people started showing up.  It was a great day with a lot of smiles!  Thanks to everyone who came to celebrate our little man!

The set up:  For lunch we served McQueen's Meatball Subs, Mater's Tators (potatoe chips), Fillmore's Fruit Salad, "The King's" Creamed Corn and lots of sweets for dessert.  It worked out good and we had enough, something I always worry about when hosting a party.

We also shared the day celebrating Aunt Christy's 30th Birthday!

His new bike from Dad and Mom, complete with a case to carry your cars.  What kid doesn't need that :)

Lawson was content with the boxes.

Thanks again to everyone who came!  We have been busy playing with all of our new toys this week :)

A Day for Lukas

Last Friday was Lukas' actual 3rd Birthday.  We wanted to make it a special day and do some activities that he would love.  We decided to head downtown to Crown Center and check out the Aquarium.  We have never been there before so were excited to see what it had to offer.  It ended up being a great option that Lukas and Lawson both loved.

For lunch then we headed to Fritzs.  We have been there before but I think the restaurant is so neat with all the trains.

The kiddos were starting to wear down, but we decided to go check out Union Station before we headed home.  I really had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised.  They had a great model train area that topped Lukas loved, especially since it had both Thomas and Percy the trains.

It was a great day of celebrating Lukas!  More on his birthday party to come.

3 Years Already

My baby big boy is three years old today!  He was my first little miracle that made me a mommy, and its hard to believe it was three years ago already.  Lukas brings so much joy and laughter to our family with the things he does and says.

Things about the little man:
  • Not sure on stats, we go to the doctor next week.  He is a very solid little boy though. (38 1/2 inches tall and 32 lbs.)
  • Loves to be outside, playing, riding his tricycle, digging in dirt or climbing on anything (all boy here)
  • Likes to spot animals in the yard and neighborhood.  We have a lot of rabbits and a cardinal that are his favorites
  • His favorite toys right now are his cars and animals.  He also gets very interested in any toy Lawson has at the moment.
  • Likes to play with Lawson especially wrestling him.  Lawson handles it well though and usually just laughs about it.
  • We have been working a lot on sharing still.  He does a pretty good job, but has figured out how to manipulate Lawson to get what he wants.
  • Lukas and Lawson adore each other and I hope they stay close as they get older.
  • Lukas can tell you all of his colors and shapes.  He can count to about 13 and then it gets pretty rough
  • He can say his ABC's and can usually recognize his letters.
  • Lukas repeats anything that is said and remembers EVERYTHING, no tricking him anymore :)
  • He loves to sing and is a country music fan.  He will sing "Wagon Wheel" and "Boys Round Here"
  • We love to have dance parties to music from his cartoons or movies.
  • Since we have moved, Lukas and Dad have become addicted to QT.  Lukas always manages to convince Dad he needs a juice if Dad gets a pop.
  • He is still a good sleeper and goes to bed really well.  He does get up at like 7:30 every morning though.  I wish we would sleep in a little more for the summer, but thats okay.  He still takes a nap in the afternoon for about 2 hours.
  • Lukas is a great eater.  He is up for trying almost anything.  His favorite restaurant is Chick-Fil-A since it has the toy area.
  • Lukas is not real good at taking pictures.  It takes quite a bit of bribery to get a good smile out of him.
  • Lukas' favorite thing to do is go to the zoo.  He isn't picky about what one, but LOVES animals.
  • He loves to play with kids his age and gets very excited when I tell him about someone we are going to see or someone who is coming to visit.
  • One of my favorite things Lukas says is when I get back from being gone, maybe even from the store for like 10 minutes.  Lukas will run to me for a hug and tell me he is so happy to see me and how he missed me.  It never gets old.

Lukas, Daddy and Mommy love you very much!  You are an amazing little boy.  We can not figure out what we did all the time before we had you.  You are a very busy boy that keeps us on our toes.  You bring a smile to our faces every time we see or think about you.  We look forward to the many memories ahead!  We love you!

A day at the Farm Zoo

Since Lukas is such a zoo fanatic we had to nick name the Deanna Rose Farmstead the farm zoo and then we have the KC zoo.  Well last week we got invited with the Hickel crew to go check it out.  It was actually hilarious because Lukas actually brought me my phone and said he was going to call Krystal (Hagen's mom) so he could go to his house and play.  The kid is always ready for something new.

We couldn't have asked for a better morning and the kiddos did great.  Thanks again for the invite!

9 months

Lawson hit the 9 month mark.  I can't help but think about how he has now been with us as long as I carried him through my pregnancy.  He brings so much to our family.  Lawson is the happiest little guy and just smiles at everyone we see.

Lawson this month:
  • Height and Weight he was in the 25% of both and 70% in head circumference
  • He is in 3 diapers and wears 6-9 or 6-12 month clothes
  • He eats about anything you put in front of him.  We do a lot of table food cut up that is soft enough for him to chew.  He still does formula every 3-4 hour at 6-7 ounces.
  • Can hold his own bottle.
  • He still has just the 2 teeth on the bottom, but I think one maybe two are about to come through on top
  • Lawson is getting pretty quick at crawling but loves to pull himself up on everything.  He now tries to get into cabinets and figure out everything around him.  Toilets have become a fascination.
  • He wants to play with Lukas constantly and be right in the middle of everything
  • He will cry if you leave the room on him, does not want to be left out
  • We have gone swimming a few times and he LOVES the water.  He just sits and splashes like crazy
  • Loves to play peek a boo or any kind of hiding game
  • Lawson loves it outdoors, especially going for walks in the wagon
  • Lawson loves to dance whenever he hears music.  It is so cute!
  • We find him standing frequently in his crib
  • Lawson has become a little cuddle bug at bed time especially.  He likes to rock in his room and be sang to.
  • He "talks" to us all the time
  • Dada and Mama are sounds that do come from his mouth.  Erin and I work with him on those frequently :)
  • He has started to learn to wave to people.

4th of July

I have always enjoyed the 4th of July.  The family, friends, food, and fireworks.  Although I am not big in actually shooting them off, I do enjoy watching them, especially the night works.  This was the first year however that I had a child wanting to get involved.  To say that Lukas liked it is an understatement.  He was LOVING it!  I was freaking out, and he was having a great time.

We had a great day though.  We started off with lunch at the Webb's.  We got to enjoy the weather outside playing with the dogs and some yard games.

Then came home for an evening here at the house.  Some of my family came over for dinner and fireworks.

The smoke bombs were a hit, especially running through the smoke.
Now if I can just get Lukas to understand we can't do fireworks everyday :)
Hope everyone had a safe and Happy 4th!

Feeling Hot Hot Hot!

A couple weekends back some of Erin's family came up to hang out for the weekend.  For a Father's Day treat we all headed to the Royals game Saturday afternoon.  It was a warm one!  I got to cool off a bit though by entertaining Lukas and Loghan and trying out the water area in the outfield.  We lasted through the 5th inning and then Karlynn and I decided to head back to the house for naps with the little ones while the rest of the crew sweated it out and watched a close game, but the Royals could not pull it off.  Maybe next time!
