Baby # 2

I know that I have done a horrible job this time around of writing down things about this pregnancy.  I thought I should atleast give an update as we enter the 3rd trimester.  I know, that means we only have 3 months left before this little bundle of joy makes his/her appearance.  The bad thing is I hear 3 months and that feels like a lot of time still; however school starts in less than a month, which means daycare, football practices and just actually having to work again start making their way into our schedule.  This leaves me with less time to prepare things at home for the baby.  I have told myself all along I want to have things basically ready to go when I go back to school.  That is 3 weeks away and I have A LOT to accomplish.

Back to the actual pregnancy.  Things have been going well through all of it so far.  The bump is starting to poke its way out.  I feel like things are very similar to my pregnancy with Lukas.  ( I am already comparing these children, poor things)  Erin and I decided not to find out what the sex of the baby is.  I guess we just thought it might be fun to have that surprise at the hospital.  I just keep picturing that scene in movies where the doctor announces "It's a ....".  Although I do realize that actual labor is really nothing compared to what most movies portray it as.  I never could have done that with Lukas, but I am very excited about it with this one.  It makes me a little worried about having things ready if it is a girl, but I am sure we will be fine.

I wear a lot of gym shorts and t-shirts just because it is most comfortable.  I am a little nervous about what I will wear when I do go back to work.  I am just not big on spending a lot of money on maternity clothes.  I usually just make dresses work.  I have a band thing for pants, but the baby is so low that it is just not very comfortable.  Maybe I can just wear the P.E. teachers wardrobe in my math class, surely that would be okay right?

The baby's room is coming along.  I will eventually post pictures when it is more complete.  The colors are teal and white on the walls and then the furniture is black.  I am planning to either add some navy blue or purple in curtains and different things around the room.  I am really liking it so far.

Pregnancy Stats:
How Far Along:  28 weeks
Movement:  I have been feeling the baby move for quite awhile now.  It is very active in the evening and when I lay down to go to sleep
Sleep:  I sleep okay, nothing great  I wake up a lot and have a hard time getting comfortable
Weight Gain:  15 lbs.
Gender:  unknown
Names:  We have it very narrowed down for both boy and girl
What I Miss:  I am not a big pop drinker, but I miss Dr. Pepper
Cravings:  I could eat chocolate all day, but I am not real sure that has anything to do with pregnancy

Birthday Party

We had a great time celebrating Lukas' birthday last week.  We decided to throw him 2 parties, why not he did turn 2 years old.  We had some of our friends and Lukas' friends over for a bbq on Wednesday evening and then all of the family on Thursday.  Both parties went great and Lukas loved all of the attention.  He was probably on a sugar high for a couple of days, but thats okay he was the birthday boy!

We did a Mickey Mouse theme for both.  I had a lot of fun trying to come up with different ideas and desserts to go with it.  I have to say the cupcakes were delicious :)

Party Round 1:  We had so much fun watching Lukas, Mack, and Eli run around the house together.  They are all very active little boys and had a great time playing together.  It wore me out just sitting and watching them jump and run all over.

Unbelievable we got them all sitting in a picture

Drink break

Round 2:  Thursday with Family
I decided to try something different for the meal and avoid the 100+ degree temps outside.  We had Mickey's Messy Burgers (Sloppy Joes), Clairabell's Creamed Corn, Goofy's Grape Salad, Pluto's Potatoe Salad, Donald's Deviled Eggs, Hot Diggity Dogs, and Daisy's Desserts.  Thanks to my Mom, Karlynn, and Elisha for helping with the food.  We also couldn't leave out the DQ cake to top it off.  It went great and Lukas was spoiled rotten once again.

Thank you to everyone for helping us celebrate!  Lukas is a very loved little boy :)

2 Years Old

Our little man is celebrating his 2nd Birthday today!  Lukas has been such a blessing to our lives, and I love having a day to celebrate that just for him.  I have to say that the 2nd birthday has been so fun to celebrate because Lukas gets so excited about everything.  The simplest things are such a big deal to him.  Watching his face light up and hearing him scream about cupcakes has been the best noise ever around her lately!

Lukas at 2 years:
  • Very, very active little boy, loves to run and jump around everywhere
  • Has a great personality and very happy
  • Loves to be outside to play, water flowers, slide, swim, ect....
  • Sleeps in a big boy bed  (We started that at the beginning of June and he is doing great with it)
  • Likes to sing his ABC's
  • Can pick out shapes like circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, diamonds, stars, moons, and even pentagons
  • Doing pretty good with his colors, except red still trips him up a lot
  • Takes around a 2 hour nap after lunch
  • Sleeps around 12 hours at night
  • Is starting to do pretty good with adult table food, loves fruits
  • His favorites right now are Lion King, Mickey, Cars and Toy Story things
  • Loves to watch the Lion King, probably the only movie he will sit down long enough to watch
  • Can tell you about any animal sound out there.
  • Loves when he gets to play with other people his age.
  • He is in big boy underwear!
  • I'm sure there is so much more to say about Lukas, but I can't think of them at the moment
More pictures:

Lukas you are one very special and loved little boy.  You make Mommy and Daddy so happy and bring smiles to our faces just thinking about you.  I will never forget the day you joined our family and made us parents for the first time.  We love you Lukas!  HAPPY 2nd BIRTHDAY BIG BOY!!

Future Model??

Underwear model you think?!?!  I know my son will hate me for this someday, but I think he is just ADORABLE!

The even better part of this post is...... wait for it ........ we have not used a diaper in a WEEK.  Thats right, this little man is potty trained, as far as I am concerned anyway.  I still realize we will have some accidents here and there, but overall he is doing awesome with it and has really grasped the concept.  He gets so excited as he runs to the bathroom yelling that he has to go.  We still use pull ups for nap and night time, but other than that we are in underwear.  (I just have to remember to call them underwear and not panties, I really get a scowl from Dad when I do that.)  I am one proud momma!

Kansas City Vacation

Since Erin had a couple days of a break around the 4th, we thought we would do a quick get away as a family.  Nothing crazy, but at least get out of town and spend some good quality time together.  Erin and I decided we wanted to go somewhere that we could really focus on Lukas and do some fun activities with him.  We figure that KC was a great place to go try some things we have never been to.

We quickly realized how different vacation is when you make it "kids vacation" as opposed to more of the adult kind that we have always had.  Your restaurant selection changes quickly, you need a place that is very kid friendly, so that way when your child starts singing "The Lion King" at the top of his lungs no one around you notices or cares.  On top of that, when you are out and about all day, your child may not get his normal afternoon nap of 2 + hours.  This will in turn lead to some melt downs and set backs, all in front of crowds of people.  Talk about making you sweat in a 100 degree weather.  Then of course like briefly mentioned is the crowds of people!  We started out in a line for one activity, but didn't last long when we were told it was a hour and a half wait from where we were standing.... outside.... in the heat.... with an almost 2 year old, situation of a disaster waiting to happen.  We opted to come back later in the evening when it was much less busy.  Great decision on our part!

I will stop with the yapping and share some pictures of the trip and let them speak for themselves.

We started out at Legends where we got a little shopping and then tried out the T-Rex Restaurant.  I had seen it many times before, but never thought to eat there.  Lukas LOVED it!  He talked about eating dinos all weekend.  The pictures are not great since there are moving dinosaurs to distract him every second.

He is excited to go see DINOS

After dinner we were planning on trying out bowling for the first time, but I was mistaken in thinking there was a bowling alley at Legends.  I swore their used to be, but I probably just don't have a good memory.  As a last option we thought we would go try some games at Dave and Buster, hoping there were some little kids ones he could play.  Lukas loved all the kids running around the colorful lights.  We won enough tickets to get a new lion stuffed animal (we are a little obsessed with the Lion King right now).

On Friday we headed down to Crown Center to check it out.  The lines were long in the morning so after lunch we went back to the hotel to swim a little and then tried again that evening.  It was a great evening that I got to top off by visiting Char at her and Bryce's new house.

Kaleidoscope
We are not big into coloring but liked the little hide outs with buttons to push.

Fritz's
We tried the train place for lunch.  Lukas loved all the trains and liked watching them drive along the top with the food.

Lego Land
We were just a little young to really enjoy everything they had to offer, but we had a great time still.  We missed out on the play place and the spinning ride cause we were just a little too short (Erin tried to get him on, but just a couple inches shy).  He liked building and digging in the legos though.

It was a great couple of days with a lot of fun packed in.  I think Lukas enjoyed it too.  Its not too tough to make your child happy though when the thought of pushing the elevator button sends him running down the hall :)
